Progress in the Signing of Arnau Martínez
Valencia is close to signing Arnau Martínez for their squad. According to Superdeporte, Ron Gourlay, CEO of football, has reached a preliminary agreement with the defender for a five-year deal, although final details are still being worked out.
The player, who can play as both right-back and defensive midfielder, is a top priority for Carlos Corberán after Thomas Meunier's transfer fell through. Gourlay has prepared an offer close to three million euros gross per year, in line with the long-term contract model Valencia has adopted recently.
Remaining Obstacles and Negotiations
Despite this agreement between both parties, negotiations with Girona are still ongoing. The main obstacle is sporting director Quique Cárcel, who opposes the transfer for sporting reasons. However, Gourlay and Lisandro Isei believe that Arnau's preference may overcome these hurdles.
Valencia has offered four million euros plus bonuses, but a compromise could be reached with an offer of six million including a sell-on percentage. Time is crucial as negotiations must conclude in the coming days for Arnau to be available for the start of the season.
